On July 13, 2023, iconic musicians Sheila E. became the first solo female percussionist to receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Sheila’s new star was unveiled in front of Musicians Institute’s front Hollywood entrance, and we also served as the anchor hosts for Sheila and her guests.

It was an exciting morning as fans and spectators lined up along Hollywood Boulevard waiting for a glimpse of the famed percussionist. Her star ceremony was emcee’d by her writing and producing partner, Jimmy Jam, and she received tributes from two other talented musicians and collaborators: Ringo Starr and H.E.R.

H.E.R. gave a shining tribute to Sheila, sharing a story of when she saw her perform with Prince when she was 13 years old. She told the crowd,

“And that was the moment that changed my life forever, because in that moment I knew, like, I could do it,” she said. “I’m looking at this amazing woman, musician, multi-instrumentalist on stage with another musician that I love, and I was so inspired.”

Sheila E. is a longtime supporter of MI, and has received an Honorary Doctorate from us in 2010. We are always honored to be part of these moments in Hollywood and music history!
