It’s music festival season again! Whether you’re studying to be an independent artist, audio engineer or a music business professional, going to music festivals is an undeniable part of the industry. While they’re obviously fun and the perfect chance to catch all your favorite acts at once, you can also always take the opportunities to network and meet fellow musicians and people who have a passion for music just like you!
As a student at MI, you already have the advantage of being in the heart of the entertainment industry and home to some of the best music festivals in the country!
Read below for some of our picks for summer festivals in L.A. for the 2023 Spring and Summer season!
Coachella
April 14-16 & April 21-23
Many artists save Coachella main stage for some of their most iconic performances of their career (ahem, Beyonce,) and that’s saying something. The fest grounds are beautiful, the fashion is fun, the music is diverse and it’s only about 2.5 hours drive away from LA!
Stagecoach
April 28- 30, 2023
A week after Coachella, Stagecoach hosts their country music counterpart, Stagecoach. Save your bejeweled cowboys and head back over to Indio for a lineup of Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Kane Brown, Brooks & Dunne and more!
Desert Hearts Festival
May 6-7, 2023
The Desert Hearts Festival is a dedicated community of underground techno and house music fans. This festival will go down at L.A. Memorial Coliseum with a lineup including, Soul Clap, DJ Minx, Mark Farina, TIGA , and more.
Beachlife Festival
May 5-7, 2023
Not many things can be better than live music…on the beach!? This Redondo Beach festival is boasting an epic lineup with artists ranging from The Black Keys, Gwen Stefani, Pixies, Modest Mouse and more!
Just Like Heaven Fest
May 13, 2023
This festival is for the indie music lovers! First off, MGMT will be performing their entire debut studio album, Oracular Spectacular! 🤯 Other big names on the lineup include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Future Islands, M83, Hot Chip, Fever Ray and more of your faves.

So this fest in Pasadena is currently sold out, but you can still join the waitlist in case more tickets become available before May 20. It honestly might be worth it, with a lineup including legends like Iggy Pop, Siouxsie, Billy Idol, Echo & the Bunnymen and more.
I Love RNB Festival
May 27, 2023
As the festival’s name suggest, you must love R&B. Come party at the Queen Mary with Ashanti, Ja Rule, Keyshia Cole, Fabolous, Chingy, Nivea, Blaque.
Lightning In A Bottle
May 24-29, 2023
This festival is a little out of LA, in Kern Lake, but will make a very memorable Memorial Day weekend. Lightning in a Bottle is presented by The Do LaB, which “seeks to promote sustainability, social cohesion, and creative expression.” Lineup includes Tale of Us, Zhu, Sofi Tukker, Diplo, Caribou, Tokimonsta and more!
Day Trip Festival
June 24- 25. 2023
Day Trip Festival describes itself as “house music all day long,” so yeah, that’s what you’ll get! Happening over the weekend of June 25 at the Queen Mary Waterfront, get ready to dance with the likes of Bob Moses, Armand Van Helden, Cassian, Coco & Breezy and more.
Sad Summer Festival
July 29, 2023
Emo music is going on tour! Aptly named, the Sad Summer Festival will be making stops all over the country, ending in Irvine on July 29. Some of the lineup: Taking Back Sunday, The Maine, PVRIS, Hot Mulligan, Mom Jeans, and Stand Atlantic.
Musicians Institute is the leader in contemporary music education offering certificates to Masters degrees in programs spanning instrument performance, electronic production, music business, and everything in between.
