Musicians Insitute Vocal program alum, Bishop Briggs, released her second studio album Champion on November 8, and the project as a whole is as powerful as her previous work. Champion follows her widely acclaimed debut album Church of Scars, which included the Billboard chart topping single, “River.”
We reported the release of the album’s first single, “Champion,” this past July, and fans and critics alike praised Bishop’s powerhouse vocals and inspiring lyrics, of which she told Consequence of Sound:
“‘Champion’ is a song that I wrote when my self-esteem was at an all-time low…Writing this song helped me look at the question — what if I could just be myself? What if there was a world where my vulnerability was what made me powerful? What if there was a day I could proudly, without hesitation, look in the mirror and say, ‘I AM A CHAMPION,’ purely because I’m choosing to be myself? ‘Champion’ is about accepting yourself today, as you are.”
After moving to Los Angeles to begin her music career, Bishop enrolled at Musicians Institute to earn her Associate in Arts in Vocal Performance. She told Music Connection,“I tried to write as much as I could, I played shows every couple of nights, wherever I could and wherever I was let in.”
