It’s the end of the year again, and that means awards season is just around the corner! On November 20, the 2020 Grammy Awards nominees were announced, and Musicians Institute is proud to have some of our faculty and alumni being honored this year!

The list includes some of the best artists, producers, composers, writers and creatives in the industry, and it’s always great to see who is being honored.

We congratulate Audio Engineering alums, Derek Keota and Joseph Huerta, who were nominated for Record of the Year for their engineering work on “Hard Place” by H.E.R.  Ilya Salmanzadeh, who graduated with a Certificate in Independent Artist, was nominated for Album of the Year for his production work on Ariana Griande’s, thank u, next and Best Song Written For Visual Media for “Spirit” from The Lion King soundtrack. Denis Kosiak, who graduated with a Certificate in Audio Engineering, nabbed a nomination for Record of the Year for his production work on “Talk” by Khalid.

MI Drum alum, Anderson .Paak, was nominated for Best R&B Performance for “Come Home” featuring André 3000 and Best R&B Album for Ventura. Keb’Mo was nominated for Best Americana Album for Oklahoma.

This year, Lizzo led the pack with 8 nominations, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Billie Eillish and Lil Nas X followed her with 6 noms each.

We look forward to the Grammy ceremony on January 26, 2020, and seeing who will go home with music’s biggest honor.
