RECORDING STUDIOS
MI’s extensive recording facilities serve as the main teaching complex for the Audio Engineering and Independent Artist programs, as well as studios for student projects.
Studio A:
Studio A features a large tracking room for full live band recording, an SSL Duality SE 24-channel hybrid analog/digital console, an Avid Pro Tools HD X 192 interface, 24 I/O digital audio recording system, and Otari MTR 90 2” analog reel-to-reel recorder.Studio B:
A 5.1 surround mixing/editing suite outfitted with AVID Artist Control and Artist Mix components, a Dangerous Music Monitoring System and an AVID Pro Tools HD system.Studio C:
Features an API 1608 32-channel analog console and an AVID Pro Tools HD System with three 96 interfaces.Studio D:
A Rupert Neve Designs 5088
16 Channel analog console with an AVID Pro Tools HD X system.Studio E:
This world-class THX Certified dubbing stage is equipped with a 48-channel Digidesign ICON D-Control console and Pro Tools HD 3 recording system.Studio F:
The newest MI studio sports an AVID Euphonix S5 Fusion 24 console, an Avid Pro Tools HD X recording system, high-end outboard gear, Foley pits, and an ADR stage.
Live Sound Room (190):
MI’s state-of-the-art performance room features two independent digital consoles including an Avid SC48, a Yamaha M7, and stereo active QSC Line Array system. Used for hands-on instruction in the live sound program, all components are Pro-Tools and multi-track ready. The stage is equipped with a full back-line and features five independent QSC K12 monitors. The stage also includes conventional and intelligent lighting, controlled by an AVO system controller.
DAW Labs (Room MBH-102, MBH-210, MI-102, MI-277):
These Audio Engineering and teaching labs feature Mac workstations, each equipped with an Avid Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Reason, Ableton Live Standard, McDSP Everything bundle, Sonnox and Softube Plugin bundles, Eosis Air EQ Premium, Adobe Creative Cloud, Arturia C-Collection 4, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2’s and MIDI controllers.Pro Tools HD Lab (Room 281):
This Audio Engineering lab contains twelve Mac workstations loaded with Pro Tools, Logic, and Reason software, Line 6 Bass and Guitar Pod Pro amp modelers and MBox 2 interfaces. -
MI CONCERT HALL
With a capacity of 474 in fixed theater seating and a stage area of 900 square feet, the concert hall is MI’s primary venue for concerts and clinics by visiting artists, as well as for student performances and live performance workshops (LPW’s). The Concert Hall features a Digidesign Venue mixing board and is equipped for professional video and audio recording.

LIVE PERFORMANCE HALLS
MI has nine performance rooms all of which are fully equipped for Live Performance Workshops with stage, lighting, professional PA system, amplifiers, keyboard, and drum set.
Musicians Institute is proud to feature a variety of guitar and bass amplifiers, including Fender, Line-6, Ignator, PRS and Angle as well as Carvin and QSC P.A. systems, and Audix microphones in all of its live performance facilities.

INDEPENDENT ARTIST TRACKING STUDIO
The main tracking studio features a Mac running Cubase SX3 audio software with a full complement of plugins, outboard gear and microphones to handle both direct and live recording, including full live drum set.

CLASSROOMS
General Purpose Classrooms:
MI has thirteen general purpose classrooms, three of which include customized padded tables for drum sessions and 900 square foot rehearsal space complete with a dance floor and full-length mirror for practicing stage technique.
Class/Rehearsal Facilities:
MI’s instrument and vocal programs are housed in dual-use facilities that function as classrooms during the day and student rehearsal rooms during evenings and weekends. Most are equipped with Fender guitar, bass and keyboard amps, drum kits, Carvin PA, audio playback systems and dry erase boards.
In addition to eight general-use classrooms on the third floor, one on the second floor, and three in the Highland Annex, certain rooms are customized to fit the needs of specific programs.
Guitar, Bass and keyboards Facilities include:
Forty-five general-purpose counseling/practice labs. Labs are equipped with various combinations of Fender guitar, bass, and keyboard amplifiers and equipment to serve the various programs. All counseling labs are used for private or open counseling instruction during daytime hours and are available for evening and weekend student practice.
Bass Guitar Keyboard Drum & Vocal Studios:
Each of these dedicated instrument- specific studios is designed for training you in the art and technique of studio performance. Each studio is equipped with a Mac G5, Pro Tools and/or Logic Audio and related hardware, software and outboard gear.
Keyboard Workstations:
As a KIT student you have access to three different rooms equipped with a total of more than twenty Mac G5/Logic Audio-equipped digital audio workstations for instruction and project development.
Keyboard Classrooms 245 & 260:
The Keyboard Program’s teaching/practice facilities include the main classroom (CL 245) and 25 keyboard stations and a second classroom (CL 260) containing nine keyboard/piano stations. Both rooms are available for keyboard practice when classes are not scheduled.
Vocal Classroom 240:
In additions to amps, keyboards, PA and drum kit, this 35- student-capacity classroom features stage lighting and 7’x20’ mirror for practicing stage technique.
Vocals:
The fifteen vocal labs are each equipped with a 27” Mac Workstation providing access to thousands of performance-ready backing tracks, a singing machine, keyboard and mirror.
Drums:
Nine Drum Program counseling labs, each containing two complete drum kits, are used for private and group counseling during the day and for individual practice in the evening. Fifty private drum labs are dedicated to drum students. For each assigned student, these labs contain one drum set each (you supply your own pedals, cymbals, and clutch) and a private locker. You are assigned to a shared lab for the duration of your program.
Drum Classrooms 370, 375 & 380:
These Drum program class/rehearsal rooms are equipped with customized padded tables for group drum exercises.

PLAYER'S SUPPLY STORE
Located just off the main lobby, Player’s Supply offers a wide range of accessories (strings, picks, drumsticks, staff paper, gig bags, tuners etc.), instructional books, CDs and videos, and MI-logo apparel all at a discounted prices.

ARTIST LOUNGE
Located in the passage building on the 1st floor. This space is where students can relax on leather couches, charge their devices , eat or study in an conditioned space with a view of Hollywood Blvd.

STUDENT SNACK STORE
(Main Building, First Floor) The Student Snack Store houses vending machines for soft drinks, light snacks and coffee, a water filtration system, microwave and television for your use in between classes.

HOLLYWOOD PASSAGE

The Hollywood Passage connects the main MI complex to Hollywood Boulevard. The Passage houses all student-facing departments, including the Registrar, Student Affairs, Student Billing, Financial Aid, Admissions, Education and Artist & Career Services. It also includes the Passage audio lab, which houses 30 Mac-workstations and midi controllers.

All facilities at Musicians Institute are ADA compliant, with hydraulic lifts, elevators, ramps available at all stages and stairwells, accommodating restrooms and drinking fountains for students of all needs.
