MI SUCCESS STORY: E. SCOTT KELLY

E. Scott Kelly decided on a serious plan of action to become a professional audio engineer. It brought him to MI’s Audio Engineering program, which directly led to the opportunity to secure his current job at Westlake Recording Studios, famous for hosting artists including Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails & many others. E. Scott originally graduated from the Colorado University at Denver with a Bachelors from their Recording Arts program, and did audio and administrative work at Wildwood Guitars.

He then enrolled in MI’s Audio Engineering program in 2014-15, to fill in the gaps in his knowledge of engineering. During this time, he was offered an internship through MI’s Career Development team in the Student Support Center. E. Scott has since become Audio Production Supervisor at Westlake, working side by side with some of the world’s most notable engineers, producers and performers.

The combination of his hard work, skills learned at MI, and networking hustle in the right place helped get him where he is today.

“The teachers at MI are an amazing resource, but many of the great opportunities lie beyond the school. The internship program is the best way to get out there, and it was everything I had hoped it would be,” said E. Scott. “Between the internship and the curriculum at MI, my knowledge base of Audio Engineering and Music Production has continued to expand.”
