MI SUCCESS STORY: AUSTIN CALLENDER

Music has been a part of Austin Callender’s life since he was a kid, where he first played the trumpet before moving on to the bass guitar. Excelling in high school as a jazz player, Austin decided to further his music study and enrolled at MI to receive an A.A. in Bass Performance. Considering his time at MI as “life changing,” Austin graduated and was awarded the “2016 Outstanding Student Award in Bass Program” during his graduation ceremony.

Since then, Austin has played with many local up-and-coming artists like Alice Wallace, and MI alumni Whesli and Mark MacKay. He embarked on a month long tour through the U.S. with the Alice Wallace Band, where they opened up for The Band Perry at The Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa. In early September, Austin will be gracing the stage at Americana Fest in Nashville, again with Alice Wallace. Apart from his music gigs, he works as a teacher’s assistant here at MI, where his bass skills continue evolving.
