MI SUCCESS STORY: APRIL DURAN
April Duran’s first step to entering the music business was by attending San Diego State University with a major in Business, taking a semester abroad in Florence, Italy, and ultimately continuing her education in the Music Business Program at Musicians Institute. April says she always dreamed of working in the entertainment industry, so MI was the most logical step to take in her education.
After graduating with her Certificate in Music Business, she landed a position working for Live Nation at the Irvine Amphitheater and The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Wanting to contribute and support girls and women in the overwhelmingly male dominated music industry, she launched Rag HouseRecords in 2014. Over the years, Rag House has now evolved into a radio segment, Rag House Radio, a digital and hard copy magazine titled RagMag, and a multimedia platform for empowering girls and women in music, sports and entertainment, Rag House Media.
April has been an avid supporter and volunteer to Women’s International Music Network “She Rocks Awards”, Rock & Roll Camp For Girls L.A., and is a board member for California Women’s Music, where is can always be found amplifying female voices in the entertainment world.
Currently, April is an on-air personality for L.A.’s FM station HOT 103.9 from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. every Saturday and you can also catch her live on Sunday’s from 10-11:00 p.m., hosting HOT’s Local Artist Spotlight. She uses this platform to play and promote unsigned singers and bands from Southern California.
