MI SUCCESS STORY: JIMMY HERRING

From his work with the Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, and Aquarium Rescue Unit to his stints with the Dead, Billy Cobham, and Oteil Burbridge, MI guitar alum Jimmy Herring has enjoyed a spectacular career since he was a student.

“GIT was huge for me,” Jimmy Herring told MI. “I desperately needed to meet more musicians—people like me, who wanted to play all the time. I found that and more at GIT. I learned playing approaches there that I’m still working on now, 24 years later. The instructors were great and the endless stream of concerts and clinics kept me constantly inspired to keep working hard. As most musicians will tell you, we’ll always be students of music, no matter how long we’ve been playing.”
