On Friday, January 19, 2024, legendary funk musician George Clinton received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame right in front of the Musicians Institute campus on Hollywood Boulevard.

Musicians Institute, a beacon of contemporary music education, is always honored to host any of the ceremonies happening right in our neighborhood, and we were lucky to be part of the festivities before and after the iconic event.

The crowd, a vibrant mix of industry veterans, aspiring musicians, and die-hard funk fans, grooved with infectious enthusiasm, foreshadowing the epic celebration to come. George Clinton has spent his career with the legendary Parliament-Funkadelic. From “(I Wanna) Testify” and “P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)” to the Mothership Connection’s epic “Star Child” and “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk),” Clinton’s music is a genre-defying dance party across the stars.

Clinton was honored by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, and songwriter Janie Bradford. As expected, the crowd waiting for Clinton livened up Hollywood Boulevard with chants and their own singing of his tunes.

After heartfelt dedications by his artist peers and friends, Clinton made a speech about his appreciation for the honor and took a moment to acknowledge the many band members he’s created with over the years.

He said, “Lots of them are here, lots of them not. But for all of them I say thanks and I’m blessed to be representing a bunch of funky mothers. Thank you, Hollywood!”
